Imphal, April 26:

The Federation of Haomee has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the indigenous traditions and heritage of Manipur through the erection of an Indigenous Pillar. In a press release issued today, the Federation stressed the importance of safeguarding the historical and cultural identity of the autochthonous people amid growing external pressures.
The organization voiced concerns over the encroachment by certain groups, particularly the Kuki tribes, into areas traditionally inhabited by indigenous communities. It criticized what it described as “false claims” regarding land ownership and historical ties to specific villages, warning that such actions were creating tensions in the region.
To reinforce indigenous identity and resist external challenges, the Federation of HAOMEE launched the “Indigenous Pillar” initiative, alongside a tree plantation drive held on Monday, April 21, 2025, around the site of the pillar.
Prominent figures who extended their support to the event included Th. Shanti Singh, MLA Moirang A/C; Kh. Ibomcha Singh, MLA Lamlai A/C; Khashi Vashum, MLA Chingai A/C; members of the Thangjing Seva Mandal Moirang; and leaders from local clubs and civil society organizations from Shawombung Khunjao and neighboring areas.
Y. Shyam Khuman, General Secretary of the Federation of HAOMEE, who signed the press release, expressed gratitude to all who actively participated in the program.
