The Federation of Haomee has alleged that continued attacks by Kuki militants and their supporters are creating an atmosphere of fear and instability in Manipur, particularly affecting vulnerable rural communities.
In a press statement, Secretary General Vici Shimray stated that repeated incidents of violence have led to growing insecurity among the people, forcing many families to live under constant threat. He said the organisation has been closely monitoring the situation and has intensified its engagement in response to the deteriorating law and order condition.
The statement noted that the land and resources inherited from forefathers must be protected collectively, and stressed that any attempt to divide or destabilise communities would have long-term consequences. It further alleged that armed groups have been targeting civilians using weapons such as machetes, resulting in the killing of several individuals, including children.
Referring to the recent incident at Tronglaobi, Vici Shimray stated that the killing of two children has deeply shocked the public and cannot be treated as an isolated case. He maintained that such acts reflect a broader pattern of violence that requires immediate attention.
On the government’s announcement of an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 10 lakh to the victims’ families, he stated that while financial assistance may provide temporary relief, it does not address the core issue. He added that many people are demanding justice through strict punishment of the perpetrators rather than compensation alone. The statement also alleged the involvement of foreign Kuki militants and called for their identification and removal from the state.
Raising concerns over security measures, Vici Shimray questioned the effectiveness of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) arrangements with Kuki groups and asked why such agreements continue despite ongoing violence. He further questioned why certain areas remain inaccessible or inadequately secured, while operations are reportedly conducted in other regions.
The statement also expressed concern that continued violence could be exploited for political gains, urging political leaders to prioritise public safety over electoral interests. It called upon both the State and Central governments to take decisive and impartial action to restore peace and ensure the protection of all communities.
Reaffirming its stand, the Federation of Haomee stated that it will continue to stand with the people and work towards safeguarding the integrity and security of the land.
