Dry day declared on Polling and counting day of by-election

Imphal, Nov 4:

Whole of the state of Manipur has been declared dry state since 1991 until the state government passed under bill to lift the prohibition of liquors from some portion of the state in July 2002. The state Legislative Assemble passed the Manipur Liquor Prohibition (Amendment) Act, 2002 on 31 July 2002 lifting prohibition in the districts of Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati, Tamenglong and Ukhrul but the prohibition continues at the remaining district of Manipur including Imphal West and Thoubal district where three assembly constituencies will go on poll tomorrow.
However in view of the by election scheduled to hold tomorrow the office of the Commissioner of Excise , Manipur has declared Dry day in the whole of the state on November 7 , Polling Day and November 10 the Counting day.
Meanwhile, all is set to conduct the by-election in the 4 assembly constituencies where 10 candidates are in the fray.
BJP and Congress party is likely to have a tough fight in this election however, the BJP did not field any candidate of its party but openly supported to the ex-MLA MD Nashir who had resigned and contesting this election as Independent candidate. Congress is fielding Antaz as its candidate in the constituency.
