Drive against imported sub-standard food items

Chandel, July 27: In connection with the state government banning the import of sub-standard food items, Food Safety Officer Chandel conducted a drive against the import of Sub-Standard Food items from Myanmar at 20 Assam Rifles Post located at Bongjang Village along Imphal-Moreh National Highway on Saturday.
During the drive, Sub-Standard food items including dried fruits packages,  Pickles, Snacks and dairy products packages imported from Myanmar were pulled down for disposal after checking all the Vehicles coming from Moreh.  Briefing the media persons,  Elvison Maring, Food Safety Officer of Chandel told that the drive to check the import of sub-standard food items were conducted in accordance with the Order of State Government vide Order No. 15/52/88-M (FSSA) Pt dated 2nd February 2013.
He further said that sub-standards food products packages without labelling and indicating the manufacture’s batch Numbers, date of manufacture and expiry date imported from Myanmar were banned by the State Government under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.  While appealing the general public to co-operate and stop importing the sub standards food items from Myanmar, Food Safety Officer also stated that if any individuals found violating the order can be fine a sum Re.1 to 2 Lakhs as a penalty under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
