Imphal, July 12:
Dhanamanjuri College Alumni Association (DMCAA) and Dhanamanjuri University Teachers’ Association (DMUTA) have stated that the demands of the students for appointment of regular VC, registrar and other key authorities are genuine and require urgent attention to prevent further escalation of the suffering of the students.
The association has outlined several key demands in their statement, including the appointment of a regular Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, and Finance Officer. Additionally, it stated that there is a pressing need for the recruitment of both teaching and non-teaching staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the university.
Another critical demand raised by DMCAA is for the university to fulfill the necessary criteria to receive grants under Section 12B of the UGC (Amendment) Act, 1972. This would provide financial stability and academic recognition, which are essential for the institution’s growth. The DMCAA also emphasized the importance of conducting undergraduate examinations on time to prevent delays in students’ academic progress and admissions to master’s programs.
The association highlighted the need for regular meetings of the Academic Council, Syndicate, and Board of Management to ensure effective governance. Furthermore, the autonomy of Dhanamanjuri University under the UGC Act is crucial for its independence and development. Protecting the university’s land from encroachers and developing necessary infrastructure for future generations are also vital components of the DMCAA’s demands.
The DMCAA has made multiple attempts to meet with the Honorable Governor of Manipur and the Registrar of Dhanamanjuri University to discuss these issues and foster a conducive atmosphere for resolution. However, no response has been received to date.
The association is deeply concerned about the worsening condition of the students on hunger strike, some of whom have been hospitalized.
DMCAA President N. Ibohal Singh has called on the concerned authorities to take immediate action to address these issues. The association welcomes the initiative taken by Th. Basantakumar Singh, Honorable Education Minister of Manipur, to address the staffing requirements and hopes for swift implementation. Resolving these issues is critical to restoring the university’s functionality and preserving its legacy as a beacon of higher education in Manipur.
Also, the Dhanamanjuri University Teachers’ Association (DMUTA) has extended its support to the ongoing student-led agitation at Dhanamanjuri University. Among the association’s longstanding demands are the timely conduction of examinations, prompt declaration of results, and the appointment of proficient and dedicated personnel to various university offices. The DMUTA has urged the relevant authorities to address these pressing issues expeditiously, aiming to restore the academic ambiance on the DM University campus.
