The first round of the District-Level National Deworming Day 2025 was launched on Thursday at Japhou Upper Primary School, Japhou Village. The event was organized by the District Health Society, Chandel.
The launching program was attended by Deputy Commissioner Chandel, N. Nandakumar Singh, IAS, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Yumnam Hemchandra Singh, ZEO Chandel; Mina Nula, Inspector of Schools, ADC Chandel; and Martha Saka, Supervisor, ICDS Cell, Chandel, who graced the event as Guests of Honour. CMO Chandel, Dr. Joyson Matthew Monsang, presided over the function as the Functional President.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. R.D. Anna Niwarhring, DNO for Child Health, Chandel, highlighted the effects of parasitic worms on health, the importance of hygiene, and available treatments. She emphasized that the campaign aims to reduce worm infections in children and raise awareness about deworming. She further stressed the need to improve sanitation, practice good hygiene, and consume safe food and water.
Speaking at the event as Guest of Honour, ZEO Chandel Yumnam Hemchandra Singh stated that the first round of National Deworming Day 2025 will be observed from March 13, with a mop-up round scheduled for March 20 for students who missed the initial dose. The campaign is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of School Education and will cover schools, Anganwadi Centres (AWCs), and health units across the district.
CMO Chandel, in his speech, explained that the mass deworming campaign is aimed at reducing the harm caused by soil-transmitted helminths (STH). He delivered a health talk on the effects of worm infections and highlighted the importance of deworming, hygiene, and sanitation.
