Displaced Meitei residents of Churachandpur district, who were driven out by the armed Kuki militants and presently taking shelter at relief camps in various parts of Imphal valley today slammed Manipur Minister Leishangthem Susindro over his remark regarding the ‘land patta’ which he stated that displaced Meitei people of Churachandpur do not have and land patta.
“ Don’t spread public platform to spread wrong information without doing homework, at this hard time”, Ngariyanbam Ullen Mangang hit back to the Minister, while talking to media persons at Manipur press club today. He said, “Your unverified remark on public platform hurts all of us who are facing hard times due to the ongoing crisis which is over six months”, Ullen told the Minister through the reporter.
Minister L. Susindro stated that it is unfortunate to learn that those Meitei people living in Churachandpur do not possess any land patta and the same appeared in a local newspaper on November 9 issue.
Interestingly, Ng. Ullen Mangang is the General Secretary of Khumujamba Meitei Leikai Pattadar (Landowner) Association. After the Meitei people inhabiting various parts of the Churachandpur district were driven out by the Kuki militants and deported to relief camps in Imphal in the name of securing their lives by Central armed police including the Assam Rifles, villages and localities resided by the Meiteis were bulldozed and flattened into ground by the miscreants.
Ullen said that the landowner association had sent a representation to the Deputy Registration of Society, Churachandpur during the then SDO Darun Kumar S, on December 15, 2022, for verification of the land patta of the Meiteis at Khumukamba Leikai Churachandpur. Darun Kumar is now the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur district. Following that The SDC of Churachandpur district in its letter reference number P-136/SR/2022 – CCP/154 has verified the land patta and stated it to be true.
“Minister Susindro should clarify his statement in connection with the land patta holders of the Meitei community of Churachandpur”, Ullen said.
On the other hand, the victims of the ongoing violence whose houses have been bulldozed and flattened in Churachandpur expressed dissatisfaction with the compensation announced for their houses. He said that ex-gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs is not justified.
