Imphal, Mar 18:
Two young girls, Lourembam Anjali Devi (13) and Chanambam Langlen Chanu (14), hailing from strife-torn areas of Manipur, are poised to represent their homeland in the 3rd Sub Junior Boys and Girls National Boxing Championship 2024. Anjali Devi originates from the troubled locales of Moreh Ward No. 5, while Langlen Chanu comes from Ekou Sadu Koireng.
Trained at the SARITA REGIONAL BOXING ACADEMY (SRBA), which offers free residential boxing training amidst the violence in Manipur, these girls have found solace and purpose in their pursuit of boxing. Guided by renowned boxer Laishram Sarita and her husband, Chongtham Thoiba, the academy has become a beacon of hope for displaced children in the region.
Today, amidst a flurry of excitement and anticipation, the girls were seen off by their coach Sarita Laishram at Imphal airport as they embarked on their journey to the championship in Greater Noida. The tournament is scheduled to take place from March 18th to 25th.
The participation of Anjali Devi, Langlen Chanu, and their peers from SRBA marks a significant milestone, showcasing their resilience and determination to excel despite the challenges they face. Alongside them, seven young boxers from SRBA and 15 others from various boxing academies in the state will also be vying for glory in the tournament.
