Disabled people staying at relief camps faces problem due to non-availability of medicines – SPDPO

IT News
Imphal, April 23:

The State Platform of Disabled People’s Organisations (SPDPO) in Manipur has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the state Health Department regarding the care provided to disabled individuals seeking refuge at relief camps.
Md. Yunus Khan, President of the SPDPO, voiced concerns, stating, “We are not satisfied with the State Health Department over their negligence toward the disabled people staying in the relief Camp.” He highlighted the dire situation faced by many disabled individuals who require medication but are encountering extreme difficulties in accessing it due to job loss amidst the ongoing crisis.
During a visit to the relief camp established at Thangmeiband Tombisana High School, where the SPDPO team distributed Zambo boxes and T-shirts to disabled residents, it was discovered that many were struggling due to a lack of essential medicines.
“A disabled girl in the relief camp informed the SPDPO team that one disabled person in the camp is not receiving any government benefits as he lacks both an Aadhaar card and a disabled certificate,” stated Md. Yunus.
The SPDPO has urged the State Health Department to address the needs of disabled individuals residing in relief camps, emphasizing the urgency of the matter. Additionally, they expressed discontent over the Electoral Commission of India’s failure to accommodate disabled voters during the recently concluded first phase of elections, citing inadequate arrangements.
