Imphal, Sept 28:
Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur in association with All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) organised a Social Service cum Tree Plantation programme at Irabot Square, Lilasing Khongnangkhong today.
The event was held in connection with the ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024” campaign, being observed across the country on the theme “Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata.”
Speaking at the programme, M. Joy Singh, Commissioner, IPR, stated that the social service drive, held as part of Swachh Bharat Mission, aimed to emphasise the importance of cleanliness and proper waste management. He mentioned that the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched across the country on 2014, adding that the Mission is completing 10 years this year.
The IPR Commissioner maintained that the cleanliness drive was conducted in line with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision for not only an independent India, but a clean and developed nation, as well as in tribute to him.
He further said that the tree plantation drive being carried out today under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign will help maintain a healthy ecosystem. He also extended gratitude to staff of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) for rendering their support in the drive.
M Joy Singh reminded the people that cleanliness starts at home and urged them to work sincerely, be dedicated and extend their cooperation in maintaining a clean, healthy and developed Manipur and nation.
Director, IPR, Dr. Th. Charanjeet Singh; President, AMWJU, Bijoy Kakchingtabam; officials and staff of DIPR, standing committee members of AMWJU and staff of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) also attended the programme.
