Protest intensifies as the government doesn’t heed to the demands of the disabled students. Today road leading to Sports Authority of India (SAI) complex, Takyel were blocked by disabled students of Ideal Blind School and government Deaf and mute school along with the parents and guardians.
It can be mentioned that protest has been going on since February 23 by staging it-in-protest at the gate of Ideal blind school. And also a memorandum was also submitted to the Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren.
Speaking to media person President of Parents and Guardians Council for Persons with Disabilities Manipur Thangjam Saratkumar said that talks and discussion has been made with the officers of the social welfare department after their memorandum was given to the CM. Even though written assurance was given to them by the officers but most of their demands didn’t assure for a specific time frame. So to fulfill their much needed demand, students along with the parents and guardians block roads intensifying their protest.
He added that if specific time frames of their demand were given they will withdraw the protest.
Thangjam Saratkumar further reminded their demand which mainly focuses on to upgrade the Govt. Ideal blind School and govt. Deaf and Mute School up to the standard of higher secondary and also to run a state government school for intellectual and development disabilities. He also added the schools required teachers and staff to function properly and also to implement immediately the rights of persons with disability Act, 2016.
Khuraijam Kunje, a mother of a disabled student said to the reporter asking why there hasn’t any discussion in the ongoing budget session for the deprived disabled students which has been protesting since Feb 23. She appealed to care the disabled students like that of the general students by the government. She also asked if their deprived disabled students’ fates were made only to learn up to the standard ten only.
