Tension gripped the office of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) at Babupara today afternoon after a large number of volunteers of the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) staged a fierce protest over the alleged use of substandard and non-watermarked paper for printing textbooks and answer scripts.
Police personnel were deployed to prevent the agitating students from entering the premises, leading to confrontation as protesters attempted to force their way inside. The situation escalated when demonstrators breached the security cordon and stormed the BOSEM complex, hurling rotten eggs at the office building.
Raising slogans and holding placards, the protesters accused BOSEM authorities of gross negligence, alleging that the use of inferior materials has compromised the integrity of the examination system. They warned that such lapses could have serious implications for students’ academic future.
“The future of students cannot be jeopardised due to administrative failure,” a protester said.
DESAM has intensified its agitation, demanding a thorough probe into the procurement process and strict punishment for those responsible. The student body also called for the immediate resignation of the BOSEM chairman and secretary, while urging the government to enforce stringent quality control in examination-related materials.
There was no immediate response from BOSEM officials at the time of filing this report.
