The Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has called for the timely and transparent declaration of the results of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) entrance test, conducted on August 17 across various DIET centres.
Addressing a press conference today, Oinam Romesh, Secretary of Education, DESAM H.O., said the results should be announced by September 10, along with the marks obtained by each candidate. He cautioned that if DIET principals fail to publish the list of selected candidates with their marks, the results would be deemed null and void.
Romesh stated that the decision followed repeated complaints from candidates regarding discrepancies in the evaluation process. He argued that declaring results without disclosing marks would lack fairness and accountability.
The DESAM secretary also alleged that past recruitment processes had been plagued by corruption, nepotism, and favoritism, which compromised the integrity of teacher training. He stressed that the student body would remain vigilant this time to ensure that no malpractice takes place.
“Teaching is a noble profession, and any compromise in the recruitment of trainee teachers directly undermines the quality of education in the state,” Romesh said.
DESAM further demanded that the results be published in full transparency, including the names, roll numbers, categories, sex, and marks of all candidates, so that merit-based selection can be verified by the public. The alliance also urged DIET principals to refrain from unfair practices while preparing the merit list.
Reiterating its stand, DESAM warned that any attempt to manipulate the process or deny deserving candidates their rightful place would invite strong opposition from students and the wider public.
