DESAM continues protest to punish officials

Imphal, Nov 11: Members of the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) continue its protest demanding punishment of those police officials involved in the custodial torture of five volunteers including its President M Angamba.
Large number of students belonging to Birmangol College, Sawombung High School, Namjalang High School and Maheikol High School today came out at the street and form human chain  from Sawombung Keithel till Birmangol College along the Imphal Ukhrul road today afternoon demanding appropriate action against those police officials who were involved in the custodial torture of the 5 DESAM Volunteers on October 29. Similar protests were also staged at Indo-Burma road at Canchipur area. Large number students belonging to USA Academy School, IPS, Temple of Learning and Dhaneshwor High School form human chain at the sideline of the road demanding the same.
On the other hand the protestors at Sawombung area burn the effigy of Home Minister Gaikhangam and SDPO of Singjamei Police Station over its failure to initiate action against those involved in the torture of the DESAM volunteers. They also denounce the State Home minister over its failure to fulfill the assurance given to the representatives of the students’ body some days back.
