Depression a looming threat: seminar

Imphal, July 8: A seminar on the topic ‘Depression, A Global Crisis, Let’s Talk’ was organised jointly by Shine Pharmaceutical Limited and Jivan Hospital Kakching at the main auditorium of the hospital last night. Psychiatrist Dr Hiranmay Saha, who is the chairman of Shine Pharmaceutical Limited, was the main resource person at the programme. Among the notable participants were Prof RK Lenin of RIMS, advisor of Jivan Hospital Dr N Nabakishore, its managing director Dr Ashok Kumar, its medical superintendent Dr N Jivanlata, commander of 26 Assam Rifles AS Chauhan, and first charter accountant of the state Ksh Kunjabi. Many doctors, prominent personalities of the area and senior citizens also attended the seminar. Dr Ashok reminded that depression is the third most common illness in the world at present and is widely believed to take over the number one spot by the year 2030. The illness has full potential to inflict massive damages to our society and taking note of the extreme need for understanding it as advance as possible in order to deal with it effectively the seminar was organised, he said.
