The Disabled Development Association Manipur (DDAM) with its headquarter at Oinam Sawombung Awang Leikai, Wangoi submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur in which 10 points of concern for persons living with disabilities are mentioned. The memorandum signed by Md Yunus Khan, General Secretary of DDAM contains, among others, the following points which the association wants the relevant authorities to address. They are: to release the amount of the schemes for persons with disabilities for the year 2014-15 at an earliest possible date; to appoint a full time independent Commissioner for persons with disabilities; to appoint regular staffs of the disability section of the department for smooth implementation of the welfare schemes for persons with disabilities; to allocate special budget for implementation of more welfare schemes for the disabled meaningfully; to provide better support to the existing Grant-in-Aid schemes for disabled persons; to provide adequate budget for organizing awareness programs relating to persons with disabilities; to convert the promise of the Union Minister who recently visited Manipur into action; to upgrade the two existing special schools for the disabled to higher level; to establish more hostels for disabled students and to provide written assurance with regard to implementing the aforementioned demands. Copies of the memorandum were also submitted to the Chief Minister, Social Welfare Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary- Social Welfare, Principal Secretary- Finance, Director- Planning and Director- Social Welfare, Manipur.
