The 86th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), under the aegis of the Inspector General, Manipur and Nagaland Sector, organised a 10-km cycling event in Imphal West today under the SPANDAN (Sports for Peace and Development Across the Nation) programme.
The event was conducted under the supervision of Saurabh Kumar Chaoudhary, Commandant of 86 Battalion CRPF, as part of the programme’s objective of promoting peace, national integration and grassroots sporting talent while engaging youth in constructive activities and addressing social concerns such as drug abuse.
Padma Shri awardee N. Kunjarani Devi, one of India’s most decorated women weightlifters, attended the event as chief guest and, along with Saurabh Kumar Chaoudhary, flagged off the cycling event from the Western Gate of Kangla.
The cycling route covered Kangla Western Gate, 1st MR Junction, Keishampat Junction, Kwakeithel Bazaar, Imphal College, Punya Honda Showroom, Little Flower School, Kwakeithel Bazaar Traffic Point, Keishampat Junction and Lok Bhawan Gate before concluding at Kangla Western Gate.
A total of 94 participants from different age groups took part in the event. At its conclusion, N. Kunjarani Devi, Saurabh Kumar Chaoudhary and Dr Florence Dangmei, Chief Medical Officer of 86 Battalion CRPF, distributed medals, certificates and cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 to the first, second and third-position holders respectively.
Athokpam Bike Singh secured first position, followed by Thounaojam Gyananta Singh in second and Angom Yaiphaba in third. The youngest and oldest participants were also felicitated.
