Awareness programme on “Comilla Cotton Based Health Care Product” held

A One-Day Awareness Programme on “Comilla Cotton Based Health Care Product” cum Distribution of Sanitary Pads to girl students and lady staffs of College of Food technology, Lamphelpat was successfully organised today.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Ng. Joykumar Singh, Professor, College of Food Technology, CAU, Imphal. The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Narmada Hidangmayum, Secretary to Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, spoke about the Comilla cotton and its uses. A Technical Session on Menstrual Health and Hygiene was conducted by Dr. Bhavna C Soso, Medical Officer, College of Food Technology, providing participants with valuable insights into health practices and hygiene management, particularly relevant for adolescent girls and women in rural areas.

The initiative also supports the broader goal of utilising regional agricultural resources for public health benefit, giving Comilla cotton — traditionally used in textiles — a new and impactful application in the health and hygiene sector.

The Presidential Speech was delivered by Dr. Th. Shantibala Devi, Deputy Director (Research), CAU, Imphal, who commended the collaborative effort behind the development and distribution of these indigenous sanitary products and stressed the importance of continued research and outreach in rural health.
