CoTU suspends blockade, warns of escalated protests

IT News
Imphal, Jan 5:

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has temporarily lifted its indefinite economic blockade on National Highway NH-2 and the 24-hour shutdown in Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi, effective at 2:00 AM on January 5. This decision follows an agreement with authorities regarding the deployment of the 112 CRPF Battalion to the Saibol region of Lhungtin Sub-Division, Kangpokpi District.
While the suspension provides temporary relief from the ongoing unrest, tensions remain high. CoTU has issued a warning that if the remaining Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) units are not withdrawn from Kuki-Zo community areas within 48 hours, the Committee will initiate more aggressive protests.
CoTU’s demands have centered around securing stronger protections for the Kuki-Zo community’s rights and territorial integrity. These demands intensified following a January 3 incident where over 15 protestors were injured due to excessive force used by security personnel.
Although CoTU acknowledged the partial step taken by authorities in deploying the CRPF to the region, the Committee stressed that further actions, particularly the withdrawal of CAPF units, are necessary to resolve the underlying issues. The situation remains fragile, with CoTU signaling that further protests could ensue if their concerns are not addressed.

Not surprising they’re dictating terms as they have been given a position of strength. This is the natural history while a state filter nature armed group. Remember Brindrewalla.?
