CoTU imposes 12 hours shut down in Kangpokpi district

The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) has called for a 12-hour total shutdown in Manipur‘s Kangpokpi district following the death of a Kuki community member.
Reports indicate that one person from the Kuki community was killed and three others injured in a clash with Meitei groups at Koutruk village in the Koubru mountain range.
The deceased, identified as Pu Lammang Kipgen, was a village volunteer according to COTU.
In a statement, COTU blamed “unprovoked attacks by secessionist Meitei terrorists and the Arambai Tenggol with tactical and logistical support from the State Police” for the death. They have called for a 12-hour shutdown “as a mark of respect” for the deceased.
“The Committee on Tribal Unity calls for 12 Hours Total Shutdown in the entire Sadar Hills Kangpokpi for the unprovoked attack at Kangchup Bethel Area by the secessionist Meitei Terrorist and the Arambai Tenggol along with the tactical and logistical support of the State Police which has resulted in the death of one of our Kuki-Zo Village Volunteer,” said COTU in the statement.
COTU will also be holding a ceremony at the Martyr Cemetry at Phaijang at 1 pm on Sunday.
