Imphal, April 28:

A deadly clash erupted in the Leimakhong-Kangchup region early this morning, resulting in one reported death of a Kuki Zo armed militant and injuries to at least four others. The confrontation followed a heinous attack on Koutruk village, where heavily armed Kuki militants unleashed a barrage of gunfire and explosives, leaving a trail of destruction.
According to police sources, the violence escalated when “dozens of armed men” launched a brazen assault on Koutruk village, situated on the outskirts of the Imphal Valley, from the surrounding hills in Kangpokpi district at approximately 2:30 a.m. Bullets tore through the walls of homes, sending shockwaves through the community. As the chaos unfolded, efforts were made to evacuate children, women, and the elderly to safer locations.
The attackers employed sophisticated weaponry, including locally-made mortar shells known as “Pumpis,” intensifying the gravity of the assault. In response, village volunteers engaged in a fierce gun battle with the armed Kuki militants, resulting in casualties to the attackers.
The clash comes on the heels of a similar tragedy just a day prior, where two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel lost their lives and two others sustained severe injuries in a militant ambush in the Bishnupur district. The swift escalation of violence underscores the precarious security situation in the region.
In the aftermath of the skirmish, security forces mobilized to the area, striving to restore order and stabilize the situation. Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities work to apprehend those responsible for the bloodshed.
