The Sinakeithei Village Authority has alleged a well-coordinated, multi-phase armed assault on the village, describing the incident as a significant escalation marked by tactical precision, sustained firepower and the use of heavy weaponry.
According to the statement, the engagement began around 11 am on Thursday with what was described as a “probing attack” from the southeastern flank, aimed at testing the village’s defensive preparedness. Following initial resistance from the village side, the attack reportedly escalated into a coordinated three-pronged offensive targeting Mt. Iris in the east, Mt. Lungter in the west and the northern vigilance bunker.
By afternoon, the situation intensified as positions in the Lungter foothills allegedly provided suppressive fire, enabling reinforcements to descend from higher-altitude camps in the Lungter range. The statement further claimed that the Leplen–Tingpibung route via Sinakeithei village was used as a logistical corridor, with drone activity observed around sundown, indicating organised mobilisation.
The exchange of fire reportedly continued into the night with increased intensity. The Village Authority alleged that the attackers upgraded to heavy armaments capable of causing extensive damage, raising serious concerns over the source of such weaponry.
After a brief lull around 1:30 am, which the village described as a tactical pause, firing resumed in the early hours of March 20 with renewed intensity, prolonging the confrontation.
The statement also noted that personnel of the Manipur Rifles stationed in the village initially maintained restraint and a defensive posture to avoid civilian casualties. However, as firing intensified and rounds began hitting both the camp and civilian areas, the forces reportedly launched a calibrated counter-offensive to neutralise hostile positions and secure the area.
Highlighting the humanitarian impact, the Village Authority stated that civilians, particularly women and children, have been subjected to severe psychological distress due to continuous firing and the penetration of bullets into residential structures. Many residents have reportedly taken shelter in safer locations within or outside the village.
Describing the incident as a combination of coordinated armed aggression and psychological pressure, the Village Authority called for urgent security intervention as well as specialised mental health support for affected civilians.
