Consumer awareness programme held at press club

Study Programme on the theme “Consumer Awareness and Institutional Mechanism for Consumer Protection in North East states was held at Manipur Press Club on May 3.

The function was organised by The Manipur Women Coordinating Council.

Speaking as the chief guest of the function President of Consumer Disputes Redressal Fora of 16 districts of Manipur N. Dijamani said that people are not aware of the consumer’s right.

He added that out of the various reasons which hinder the awareness of consumers unabling  to organise awareness program is one of the main factors which is mainly because of financial constraints.

He said that people in far off places are more unaware as compared to the people residing in Imphal.

He added that betrayal and cheating by service provider and trader can be met by filing a case and their grievances can be easily meet.

Unfortunately he said that most of the people didn’t know where and how to file the case regarding the matters of consumers.

 Dijamani concluded that around 50 to 70 cases were under trial.
