Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) organised a one day state level consultation on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Speaking on the topic of ‘role of police and the POCSO Act, 2012,’ Th. Rajkishor, member Secretary, Child Welfare Committee, Imphal West said that Police plays major roles in POCSO. He talked about the measurement and step which needs to be taken up by Police when any case of physical assault against children has been found. He also mentioned Media should not disclose the identity of the children who are involved in the POCSO; name of the school, parents and address should not be disclosed on newspaper. Further talking about various duties of Police, Rajkishor said while taking statement from the child it should be based on child friendly environment and according to the nature of the child.
Attending the consultation program, N. Ingocha Singh, Inspector, OC, Bishnupur spoke about the problems faced by Police in regards to POCSO Act. He said that police face problem in some cases of POCSO and in maintaining law and order at the same time. He said that police also requires fund to conduct proper investigation such as taking blood sample to get examined to other states since the forensic department is not developed in the state.
