Congress slams BJP Govt. over fresh killings, says Manipur crisis being handled “unconstitutionally”

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee today launched a sharp attack on the BJP governments at the Centre and in the state following two separate deadly ambushes in Manipur that claimed four lives and left seven others injured, accusing the authorities of completely failing to restore peace in the violence-hit state.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Imphal, Congress Legislature Party leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh strongly condemned the killing of innocent civilians by armed militants and said the prolonged crisis in Manipur reflected a total collapse of governance and constitutional responsibility.
“Manipur has been burning for more than three years, yet the governments at the Centre and in the state have failed to bring peace. Instead, innocent people continue to die,” Ibobi Singh said.
He alleged that the handling of the law-and-order situation by the BJP-led governments was “completely unconstitutional” and charged the Centre with giving greater priority to electoral politics than resolving the humanitarian and security crisis unfolding in Manipur.
“The Centre appears more interested in elections and political calculations while people in Manipur continue to suffer and lose their lives,” he said.
The Congress leader’s remarks came in the wake of the May 13 ambush in Kangpokpi district, where unidentified armed militants attacked two vehicles carrying members of the Thadou Baptist Association (TBA) between Kotzim and Kotlen villages.
