Imphal, Aug 23:

Congress party, through an online live press conference held at Congress Bhavan, Imphal, today, has rejected the statement made by recently expelled MLA RK Imo in his press release on 21st August, 2020.

The Vice-President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee and Chairman of Disciplinary Action Committee of the MPCC E. Dwijamani, Ex-MLA and MPCC Spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei addressed the press conference. General Secretary and Convenor of the Disciplinary Action Committee of the MPCC S. Jiten was also present.

Ex-MLA E. Dwijamani stated that the Disciplinary Action Committee was under no pressure to give recommendations to the PCC President on the disciplinary actions against the expelled MLA RK Imo. Dwijamani further added that his integrity in the party as an office bearer in the organisation for 20 years can’t be put into question while making the findings of the Committee, which was headed by him. He pointed out that the allegations made by RK Imo were baseless as the expulsion by the party was done as per the rules and provisions of the constitution of Indian National Congress.

Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, MPCC Spokesperson, refuted the allegations made by the expelled MLA RK Imo in his recent press release made after his expulsion. Bupenda Meitei defended the CLP Leader O. Ibobi Singh and the MPCC President M. Okendro, stating that the two were in their respective positions because of the decision of Congress President Sonia Gandhi. He rejected the factually incorrect statements alleged by the expelled MLA against the CLP Leader. He asked how the expelled MLA has concluded that there are only 15 Congress MLAs in the House, at present. He cited G. Viswanathan judgment of Supreme Court of India to state that the expelled MLA can attract disqualification if the MLA joins another party or goes against the whip of the parent original party on which the MLA got elected. He questioned how the expelled MLA has concluded that there was a voting in the trust vote on 10th August, when the Congress submitted the memorandum to Governor calling the trust vote was illegal and inconclusive as the division of vote was not allowed in the House. He asked the expelled MLA to state his position on the demand for the transfer of Zou drugs case to CBI. He questioned the seriousness of combating nCovid-19 in Manipur while the expelled MLA and the Chief Minister are in Delhi instead of being in the state. He stated that no true Congress man believes in dictatorship or arbitrariness. He also came heavily on the expelled MLA for the latter’s use of the word ‘the so called leaders’ in the press release. He highlighted the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in strengthening democracy and party for the state and the nation.
