Imphal, April 8:

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has filed a formal complaint with both the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur, accusing the government of breaching the model code of conduct. The MPCC has demanded legal action against the authorities responsible for these alleged violations.
Additionally, the representative of the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency has also lodged a complaint with the District Electoral Officer (DEO). The complaint concerns the violation of the model code of conduct, specifically focusing on the alleged enticing of elderly voters on April 7. The complaint points to undue influence and enticement purportedly carried out by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) assigned to Chingmeirong Maning Leikai, situated in Imphal East, Manipur.
According to the complaint, Wangkheirakpam Mani Devi, aged approximately 93 years and residing in Chingmeirong Leikai, Imphal East, Manipur, exercised her vote using the special provision for elderly citizens. It was alleged that she was instructed by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) to cast her vote exclusively in favor of the candidate listed as SL. No.2, and that she would receive monetary compensation known as “Nga Chanaba” for complying. Importantly, the candidate designated as SL. No.2 is Thounaojam Basanta Singh, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A complaint has been lodged with the District Election Officer of Imphal East concerning this matter.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in its complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) regarding ongoing mass notification advertisements and recruitment processes, which they believe contravene the MCC guidelines currently in effect.
