Imphal, April 4:
Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has strongly criticized the BJP government, alleging its failure to complete numerous projects initiated during the Congress administration. While campaigning for I.N.D.I Alliance candidates, CLP leader O. Ibobi emphasized the need for change in the upcoming election. He highlighted the irony of the current Chief Minister’s involvement in decision-making processes as a cabinet minister during the previous administration, yet still blaming the previous government.
Expressing disappointment, Ibobi noted the “lack of progress on projects by both the state and central governments. For example, the railway line project initiated in 2006 under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, of which 70 percent was completed during Congress’s tenure but remains unfinished. Additionally, projects including hospital construction and border fencing, commenced by the Congress government, have seen little advancement under the current administration.”
Ibobi underscored the plight of people living in relief camps for over a year, labeling it a testament to the government’s failure. He condemned attempts to buy votes with nominal sums of money, urging voters to reject such tactics and uphold their integrity.
Talking on the occasion, Bimol Akoijam, the Congress candidate for Manipur Inner Constituency, echoed Ibobi’s sentiments, lamenting the unprecedented restrictions on movement. He stated that it is the first time in the history of Manipur that “we cannot go beyond Kangpokpi or Tengnoupal.” Bimol emphasized that true peace cannot exist if displaced individuals are unable to return home, highlighting the urgency of addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis. He further reminded that the Home Minister never turned up after committing to the people that he will come again. He added, “We have been humiliated by the centre and after all these, we are being asked to vote for the party at the centre.”
