The conflict at the relief camp in Akampat, sparked by derogatory remarks from the volunteers of Relief Camp Committee, was resolved with an apology at the Meitei Leepun office at Langol yesterday. Thongam Priyananda, a volunteer, had made controversial statements about Meiteis of Moreh, who are now living at the Akampat Relief Camp. In the controversial audio clip, he alleged the Meiteis living in Moreh to have sold Moreh. He later apologized to the inmates after intervention by Meitei Leepun.”
The Akampat inmates, victims of Kuki-Zo narco-terrorist attack in Moreh, deemed the remarks unfortunate. One inmate remarked that “in the camp, people from all walks of life, having lost everything, are seeking refuge. From rich to poor, everyone is suffering here.”
Thongam Tilananda Singh, Chairman in charge of the Akampat Relief Camp, clarified that “Although the organizers submitted the list of, it was the government officials who distributed the funds. There is confusion about a supposed daily allowance of 100 rupees but there is no money which has been given from the government regarding this. The DC provides rice every ten days.” He further added “in a month we receive 180000 rupees which is used for various needs, including wood, drinking water, healthcare, and support for athletes traveling outside Manipur. Now, SDO is saying that he will buy firewood twice a month.”
