Committee protests, demands justice for six slain Naga men

The Justice for the 6 Sons of Koubru United Committee (J6SKUC), constituted under the Joint Tribes Council, staged a protest demonstration at Tribal Market, New Checkon, on Monday, demanding justice for six Naga men who were allegedly abducted and killed.

The protesters called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those allegedly involved in the killings. They also demanded the abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement, declaration of the Kuki National Front (Presidential) [KNF-P] as a terrorist organisation, removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, and eviction of what they described as illegal villages.

Addressing the gathering, AMUCO president S. Sanjoy alleged that despite the large-scale deployment of security forces since the outbreak of the Manipur conflict on May 3, 2023, the authorities had failed to take effective action against Kuki SoO groups. He further alleged that the Centre had allowed the conflict to continue and criticised elected representatives for remaining silent in the face of the ongoing violence and displacement.

Sanjoy urged the government to ensure justice for the victims and warned that public resentment could deepen if the demands for accountability continued to go unaddressed.
