Imphal, Mar 4:
COCOMI has called on the Union Home Minister and the Government of India to take decisive legal action against the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) for openly challenging directives of the Union Home Minister. In a statement, COCOMI demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for issuing inflammatory statements that threaten peace and stability in Manipur. It emphasized the need for strict law enforcement to prevent further incitement and blockades, warning that COTU’s actions undermine national integrity.
The organization also expressed concern over COTU’s defiance of the Union Home Minister’s directive to restore free movement on state roads by March 8. It stated that the resistance has shattered public hopes for peace and stability and urged the central government to act immediately. COCOMI warned that repeated failures to enforce such directives would further erode public trust in the Home Minister.
Condemning COTU’s demand for a Union Territory with Legislature as “FINAL” and “not negotiable,” COCOMI argued that such a stance contradicts democratic principles and peaceful resolution efforts. It accused COTU of deliberately fueling unrest, alleging that the ongoing crisis since May 3, 2023, has been orchestrated to justify its separatist agenda. It further claimed that COTU has shifted blame onto the Meetei community to cover its own acts of aggression and violence.
Reaffirming its commitment to a united Manipur, COCOMI urged the government to take firm action against those attempting to destabilize the state. It called for the rule of law to prevail, stressing that no group should be allowed to dictate terms that challenge India’s sovereignty.
