Imphal, April 29:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) is set to organise a public convention on May 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Khuman Lampak, Imphal, to mark the second anniversary of the outbreak of conflict in Manipur.
According to COCOMI, the convention is being convened to deliberate on the ongoing crisis and to adopt resolutions aimed at restoring peace and normalcy. As part of its preparation, the committee has been holding public mobilisation campaigns at various locations across the state over the past month. The campaigns have sought to raise awareness about the present situation and to gather public opinion on steps forward.
Speaking to media persons at the organisation’s headquarters, COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athouba criticised the Indian government’s failure to bring about a resolution despite the conflict entering its third year. He stated that the upcoming convention would bring together scholars, community leaders, and representatives from civil society organisations to discuss a unified approach to resolving the crisis.
“The people of Manipur have suffered for too long. This convention is a platform to voice our collective concerns and to present constructive demands to the Government of India,” Athouba said.
COCOMI has appealed to the public to attend the convention in large numbers and has urged citizens to refrain from regular activities on May 3 in solidarity with the cause. The committee maintained that the decisions taken during the convention will reflect the will of the people and serve as a roadmap towards peace.
With all necessary arrangements now in place, COCOMI reiterated its commitment to peaceful democratic processes as the state prepares to mark two years since the outbreak of violence that began on May 3, 2023.
