Imphal, July 23:

Representatives from the farmers’ wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) met with Chief Minister N Biren Singh to discuss several pressing agricultural issues facing the region. The meeting focused on the difficulties farmers are encountering, such as restricted access to paddy fields, inadequate security measures, delays in the disbursement of compensation, and challenges in obtaining urea fertilizers at government rates.
COCOMI representatives highlighted the urgent need for timely provision of paddy seeds and expressed concerns over the overall state of agricultural production in Manipur. They stressed that these issues, if not addressed promptly, could severely impact the livelihoods of farmers and the region’s agricultural output.
In response, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has assured the delegation that he would tackle the access issues to paddy fields in consultation with the concerned district commissioner and relevant departments. He also committed to raising the matter of compensation for affected farmers at the next cabinet meeting. Additionally, the Chief Minister announced that a re-survey of the remaining paddy fields would be conducted by the appropriate department to ensure accurate assessment and resolution of the issues.
The meeting concluded with assurances from the Chief Minister to take swift action to alleviate the challenges faced by farmers, aiming to bolster agricultural productivity and support the farming community in Manipur.
