Imphal, Sept 14: The Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO) under the aegis of United Naga Council (UNC) organised a peace rally today from Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School to DC office, Chandel and also submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur through the DC, Chandel.
The rally was organised to welcome and re-affirm the relentless support to the peace accord signed between GOI and NSCN (IM) on August 3 this year. It condemned and vehemently opposed the 3 (three) anti-tribal and anti-Naga Bills passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 while ignoring the Hill Area Committee, said Robert Lamkang, General Secretary of CNPO in a release.
“This shows the true colours of how the tribals and Nagas are treated by the communal government of Manipur headed by O Ibobi Singh. Whatever the circumstances may be, we will fight tooth and nail until these Bills are revoked or modified in the wishes and aspiration of the tribals and Nagas,” the General Secretary stated.
It also condemned the “killing of innocent lives in Churachanpur by the aggressive and lawless state forces”.
The release also said that UNPO has also condemned and boycotted K Ranjit, MLA of Sugnu Assembly Constituency in Naga areas for his remark against the Nagas.
