Chief Minister N. Biren Singh participated in the State-Level Gaan-Ngai Festival 2025, which was held at Sagolband Ramji Kabui Village in Imphal West. The Chief Minister shared his participation on social media platform ‘X,’ where he expressed his delight in joining the celebration.
“Delighted to join the State Level Gaan-Ngai Festival 2025 at Sagolband Ramji Kabui Village, Imphal West. Gaan-Ngai is a time of thanksgiving and renewal, reminding us of our shared values of togetherness, respect, and progress,” Biren wrote. He extended his warmest greetings to the Zeliangrong community, wishing that the festival would bring joy, prosperity, and blessings to every household.
The Gaan-Ngai Festival, an important celebration for the Zeliangrong community, marks the end of the harvest season and is a time of thanksgiving, renewal, and unity. It is celebrated with feasts, prayers, and community gatherings, where people come together to honor ancestors and seek blessings for prosperity and peace in the coming year.
Alongside the celebration at Sagolband Ramji Kabui Village, the State-Level Kabui Gaan-Ngai Celebration Committee also hosted festivities at Chingpu Kabui Village in Bishnupur District. Education and Law Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar attended the celebration at Chingpu, where he was joined by leaders from various civil society organizations.
The festival plays a significant cultural role in strengthening community bonds and celebrating the traditions of the Zeliangrong people. It is celebrated with traditional dances, rituals, and a sense of unity among the people, emphasizing respect for nature and one another.
