Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today appealed to village volunteers in both the Hills and Valley areas of Manipur to surrender their weapons within 15 days, saying the move would help consolidate the improving security situation and restore lasting peace.
The Chief Minister made the appeal during the “Display on the Initiatives towards Bringing Normalcy in Manipur” at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, Imphal. The programme was attended by Minister (Home/YAS) Konthoujam Govindas Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho.
Khemchand said the security situation in the state had improved and urged those still possessing arms to hand them over through any available government channel.
At the event, security forces and law-enforcement agencies also displayed arms, ammunition and explosives recovered across Manipur during the six-month period from February 5 to August 11.
According to authorities, the recoveries included 1,422 arms, 7,010 rounds of ammunition and 1,137 explosives. The items were recovered during various security operations, search missions and other activities across the state.
The display was aimed at highlighting the continued recovery of illegal weapons and the coordinated efforts of security agencies to curb violence and strengthen the security environment.
The Chief Minister said surrendering weapons would be an important step towards further improving the situation and bringing complete normalcy to Manipur.
