AMWJU, EGM urge digital media platforms not to reproduce news

All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) have requested social media pages, YouTube channels, and other digital media platforms to refrain from distorting or reproducing news without due permissions.

A joint committee of both these unions stated that while it would be okay to share links from the official website or verified social media pages of media organizations, it has been suggested that editing, cropping, and presentation of the reports, pictures, headlines, or video clips which distort the meaning or imply views not expressed by the journalists or media organizations be avoided.

Downloading and uploading TV programs without prior permission and reproducing entire newspapers immediately after their release have also been discouraged.

However, limited quotations for purposes such as reviews, criticisms, and discussions are encouraged.
