Civil Societies observe 70th Independence Day of Manipur

Imphal, Aug 14: Civil societies organisations of the state observed the 70th Independence Day of Manipur in commemoration to the day when Manipur got freedom from British rule on this Day in 1947. Manipur, the then Kingdom become an Indian state after it merged to the Indian Union in October 15, 1949. British left India on October 15, 1947 a day after it left Manipur. Even as the Independence Day of the erstwhile kingdom is not remembered by the government, civil society organisations has been observing it since the last many years. The day is also celebrated at other places of the state.
