Citizens for Justice flags Merger Review

Citizens for Justice has warned that the Merger Agreement under which Manipur became part of India may need to be reviewed if the current situation continues and the State Government fails to act effectively.
Speaking to reporters at Chirap Court in Uripok, the organisation’s Chairperson, Khaidem Mani, said the State Government has failed to carry out its duties and described the situation in Manipur as that of a “failed State.” He stated that the government has not been able to manage law and order or address the problems faced by the people.
He added that while the Central Government is taking steps to deal with terrorism, similar strong action is needed in Manipur. He called for strict measures against armed groups to bring the situation under control.
Khaidem Mani also said that the people of Manipur are not being treated equally and called for fair treatment and justice.
Meanwhile, the organisation has demanded that a separate FIR be filed against personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) over the alleged killing of three civilians at Tronglaobi.
Vice Chairperson A. Noutuneshwari said the police should register an independent case and carry out custodial interrogation of the personnel involved. She opposed handing over the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and said the investigation should be conducted as per law.
She also called for recording statements from the personnel concerned, stating that three civilians were killed and several others injured in the firing.
Noutuneshwari criticised some actions taken by the police after the incident, saying they restricted public movement. She also urged authorities to provide compensation to owners of vehicles damaged during the unrest.
The organisation’s statements come at a time of rising tension in the state, with growing calls for accountability and action.
