CIRCA continues campaign for self-determination

Imphal, July 10: As part of the ongoing Campaign of Coalition for Indigenes Rights Campaign (CIRCA) on Manipur’s demand for home rule and restoration of pre-merger political status, a public meeting was held at Lamphel Sanakeithel Community Hall today organised by Lamphel Sanakeithel Development Authority (LSKDA).
Cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha said that it is a mockery to the people’s movement of the state by the government that the base year for the new draft of the ILPS will be 1972. The same government has already made an agreement to protect the indigenous people during the go back foreigner movement in 1980. It shows that the government did not respect the movement of the people where many lives were lost for the protection of indigenous people.
He further added that Manipur has been facing lots problems including migration of non-local, human rights violation, issue of Irom Chanu Sharmila and AFSPA 1958, arguments on integrity and such other issues confused people working for a permanent solution. He said that these problems only can be solved though home rule and restoration of pre-merger political status of Manipur.
Dr. Khomdon Lisam, Retd. Project Director of Manipur Aids Control Society, Somendra Thokchom Convenor of CIRCA and Khwairakpam Raghumani- vice president of LAKDA graced the function as presidium members.
