Imphal, Dec 26:
Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi (IAS: 1992: MN) has been transferred to Delhi to take up the role of Higher Education Secretary at the Centre. The announcement has sparked discussions about his successor, with the government likely to appoint a senior IAS officer currently serving in the Government of India for the challenging role.
According to sources, the government is considering the repatriation of one among three senior IAS officers for the position. The shortlisted candidates include Prashant Kumar Singh (IAS: 1993: MN), Rajesh Agarwal (IAS: 1994: MN), and Vivek Kumar Dewangan (IAS: 1993: MN). Prashant Kumar Singh is presently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Rajesh Agarwal is the senior-most Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, and Vivek Kumar Dewangan is the Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited.
Insiders suggest that the government seeks an officer who can ensure seamless coordination with the newly appointed Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla. Any of these three officers may be selected to assume the Chief Secretary role and address the critical administrative challenges in Manipur effectively.
