Chief Secretary’s convoy chased away; Nambul flooded, Imphal River reached danger mark

Enraged locals chased away the Chief Secretary and his team who visited the flood affected areas at Naoremthong, Samusang, Lamphel, Lamboikhongnangkhong today afternoon.
The team comprising the Chief Secretary, Additional Secretary, IFCD Chief Engineer and DC of Imphal West went to inspect the flood-affected areas. While expressing displeasure over the state government’s failure to take precautionary measures before the flood happened, enraged locals stopped the convoy and asked them to turn back.
The locals also said that it is the responsibility of the government to take precautionary measures and ensure safety of the flood affected people.
During the inspection Chief Secretary ensured the locals of providing all necessary assistance under Disaster management to flood affected areas.
Following days of incessant rainfall, the Nambul River has overflown and the water level at Imphal River reached the danger level.
Waters of Nambul River flooded Sagolband, Uripok, Wahengbam Leikai, Nagamapal, Lamphel and Keishampat areas. Most of the drains in these areas were overflown and a large number of shops remain closed due to the flood.
Meanwhile, MLA of Sagolband A/C, RK Imo Singh along with locals started relief measures at the flood affected areas of Sagolband assembly segment.
While, according to report reaching here water level at already flood affected Kairembikhok, Salungpham, Wangbal, Sangaiyumpham and Tentha areas under Thoubal district has increased since yesterday night. Due to flood all the connectivity lines were cut off and the villages were totally blacked out for the last 3-4 days.
