Chief Minister Khemchand to visit Jiribam tomorrow, to campaign for BJP in Assam Election

Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh is set to undertake a three-day visit to Jiribam district and adjoining areas of Assam from April 4 to 6, combining administrative engagements, peace-building initiatives and political outreach, including campaigning for a BJP candidate in Cachar.
The visit follows his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, where the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur was reviewed. Sources indicated that the Chief Minister was advised to expedite the peace process and strengthen inter-community confidence.
According to officials, the Chief Minister will travel by road from Imphal and is expected to reach Jiribam on April 4. His itinerary includes visits to key installations such as a police outpost and the district hospital, besides attending a joint community meeting at New Alipur Naga village.
He will be accompanied by a delegation of MLAs, including Tongbram Robindro, Kongkham Robindro, Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei, Dr Sapam Ranjan, Heikham Dingo, Sanasam Premchandra, and Paonam Brojen.
As part of confidence-building measures, the Chief Minister is expected to meet internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in relief camps and participate in a community feast involving members of Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar communities.
This will be his second visit to Jiribam since the outbreak of ethnic violence on May 3, 2023, which has claimed over 260 lives and displaced around 62,000 people, highlighting the district’s continued sensitivity.
On April 5, he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for an inter-state truck terminus and other projects at Chandrapur in Jiribam, signalling renewed focus on infrastructure and connectivity.
The programme also includes campaign engagements in Assam’s Silchar and Hailakandi districts ahead of the upcoming elections.
Security has been significantly tightened for the visit, with anti-sabotage teams and sniffer dog squads deployed to sanitise routes and venues. The Chief Minister, under Z+ category security, will be accompanied by Ministers, MLAs and senior officials.
Earlier, following his return from New Delhi, the Chief Minister called on the Governor and also met the General Officer Commanding of the 57 Mountain Division at the Secretariat, where discussions included hosting the Durand Cup 2026 in the state.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring peace, stability and public confidence, while continuing efforts to restore normalcy across Manipur.
