Chanambam Upendra Singh, Retired District and Sessions Judge, Manipur has passed away today morning around 5:40 am after being electrocuted.
He was 85 and survived by a son, two daughter and wife. According to his son, C Hitendra Singh (45), soon after the electric shock he was admitted at the casualty ward of RIMS in an unconscious state. However, doctors declared him dead at around 6.30 in the morning.
Chanambam Upendra Singh, born on 11/9/1929 to Chanambam Ibomcha Singh and Leishram Ningol Maipakpi Devi of Sagolband Moirang Leirak Imphal West. He did his high school at Johnstone Higher Secondary School and holds two masters’ degrees in Political Science and LLB from Calcutta University.
Upendra started working as advocate in Manipur from 1960s and retired as District and Sessions Judge, Manipur in the year 1992.
He was also the President of consumer forum and headed around 17 (seventeen) commissions including the fact finding cases of Chitaranjan, Manorama, AFSPA etc.
He was one of the distinguished judges from Manipur, who headed some of the highest commissions in the country.
Many well known members of the High Court, VIPs and family members were present at his residence to attend his last rites at around 12.30 pm today.
