In a significant recognition for India’s scientific community, Dr. G. K. Dinesh, Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences at the College of Agriculture, Iroisemba under Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, has been selected as a Lead Author by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the 2027 Methodology Report on Carbon Dioxide Removal Technologies and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS).
The selection was made by the IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories following global nominations. Dr. Dinesh will contribute to the chapter on Carbon Dioxide Removal under Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU), focusing on scientific methods to quantify carbon removal through soil systems and sustainable land practices.
He will participate in international consultations during 2026–2027, with the First Lead Author Meeting scheduled from April 14 to 16, 2026, at the FAO Headquarters in Rome.
Originally from Tamil Nadu, Dr. Dinesh holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi. His research areas include carbon sequestration, climate-smart agriculture and sustainable farming systems, and he has authored over 140 publications.
