Imphal, Sept 28:
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with Ibotombi Institute of Education (IIE), successfully conducted a “One-Day Capacity Building/Training Programme For Women Empowerment” today at Kha Naorem Leikai, Canchipur.
During the event, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), spoke about the pivotal role of MSCW as a platform for addressing issues faced by women, such as domestic violence, discrimination, and other forms of harassment. She emphasised that the Commission provides women with a safe space to file complaints and seek justice for issues ranging from domestic abuse to cybercrime.
Thumlip asserted that MSCW carefully reviews the nature of each complaint before taking appropriate actions. When dealing with family issues, they typically begin with counselling both parties, and if the issue remains unresolved, necessary legal actions are taken, she explained.
Dr. R.K. Bijen Singh, Principal of Ibotombi Institute of Education (IIE), emphasised the importance of women empowerment, expressing hope for a future where men and women are treated equally. He expressed concern that, despite years of independence in India, traditional gender roles continue to limit women’s participation in the society.
Lourembam Dayabati Devi, member of MSCW, gave the keynote address, briefing MSCW’s role in Women Empowerment and need to uplift women and their sanctity. The programme was attended by several dignitaries, students of the institute and others.
