The fervent campaigns for the ensuing ADC election on June 1 came to an end at 4pm today. The present elections will witness 495 candidates vying for the top spots in six hill districts in the state in 1060 polling stations. More than 6,51,964 voters will exercise their voting rights and decide the fate of the next batch who will carry out the policies and programs of the government at the district level. Interestingly, 7 candidates of the Congress, 3 from NPF and one from BJP have been declared winners without any contest. Meanwhile, the state machinery is making efforts to make the election a free and fair one for which personnel of the state police, IRB and the VDF have been deployed in the polling stations while sensitive polling stations have been reinforced with personnel from the Indian Army and the BSF.
