In a significant development today, the Manipur state cabinet convened for a meeting at the cabinet hall to deliberate upon various pressing matters. Minister Dr. Sapam Ranjan, in a subsequent press conference, highlighted the key decisions taken during the session.
One of the crucial decisions made during the meeting was regarding the scheduling of the fifth session, which is mandated to occur on or before August 29th. Accordingly, the state cabinet resolved to commence the session from February 28, 2024. Additionally, discussions were held regarding the content of the governor’s address for the upcoming session.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by commandos in maintaining security, the cabinet approved an increase in compensatory allowances for Manipur Police Commando and other state forces stationed in vulnerable areas. Effective immediately, the allowance for Manipur Police Commando will witness a Rs 5000 increment, while other state forces in vulnerable regions will receive a Rs 3000 hike.
In a social media post, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced, “The state Cabinet approved to increase the allowance for our brave Manipur Police Commando and other state forces in vulnerable areas. Effective immediately, the allowance for Manipur Police Commando will be increased by Rs 5000, while the state forces in vulnerable areas will receive an increment of Rs 3000.”
The cabinet meeting also addressed the issue of providing ex gratia to victims of violence, particularly focusing on individuals from central armed forces but who are not residing in the state. A new scheme was discussed to extend support to such individuals.
Extending support to the Village Defense Forces (VDF), the cabinet decided to extend their engagement until March 2025. Additionally, in recognition of the sacrifice made by Chingtham Ananda Singh, SDPO of Moreh, his son will be provided with a job as Assistant Sub Inspector, and considerations for a liberalized pension were discussed.
In a bid to provide relief to farmers affected by various challenges, including recent agricultural distress, the Agriculture and Home departments scrutinized affected individuals. An approved amount of 18.91 crores for 3483 verified farmers has been allocated for this purpose and the tenants will get eighty percent of the share.
Moreover, cabinet also decided that 742 teachers will be engaged through contractual basis under Samgraha Siksha scheme.
