Election Commission of India has announced by-election scheduled for Lilong and Wangjng Assembly Constituencies today. Following this model code of conduct has been enforced in the entire Thoubal district from today.
Briefing media persons at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer Manipur here in Imphal, Joint Director CEO Manipur Ramananda said that due to pending case at other vacant assembly constituencies , the ECI has announced election scheduled at only 2 assembly constituencies – Wangjing Thentha and Lilong, both in Thoubal district.
Date of poll for the two constituencies will be held on November 7, 2020 and the counting will be conducted on November 10. Notification for the election will be issued on October 10. Last date of Nomination as on October 20 and scrutiny for the nomination will be conducted on October 21. The last date for withdrawal of Candidature is on October 23.
A total of 63,611 voters will cast their vote at both the constituencies. Unlike before only 2 persons can company the candidate while filling nominations and not more than 5 persons will be allowed for door to door campaign. While road show will be allowed vehicle is put limited to five numbers only. However can use more with a gap of 30 minutes. Another specific feature is that postal ballot will be allowed to people more than 80 years old, PWDs , and COVID positive patients.
