Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced today that the Manipur government will earmark Rs. 350 crore in the upcoming state Budget to support around 3.5 lakh women affected by the ongoing ethnic conflict in the state.
The Chief Minister made the announcement while addressing a programme organised by the Social Welfare Department at the City Convention Centre to mark International Women’s Day. He said the funds, granted by the Centre, would be included in the state Budget scheduled to be presented on March 9.
According to the Chief Minister, the initiative aims to provide financial assistance to women who have faced severe hardships since the outbreak of violence in the state. He noted that many families have suffered significant economic distress during the conflict and that the scheme is intended to support their rehabilitation and livelihood.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel said women have played a vital role in shaping the social, political and economic fabric of Manipur. He said the women honoured at the programme represent only a small section of the many across the state whose resilience and contributions have helped society navigate difficult times.
